Appearance: 

Intelligent, loyal and playful. They are bit longer than they are tall with high set triangular ears. They have a deep chest and a short tail with a thick coat. They have a strong and well balanced frame.


Color: 

Blue merle, red merle, black, red or red with white/tan markings.


Grooming: 
Requires weekly brushing and grooming.

Temperament: 

High energy, intelligent, active and playful. Need regular exercise and metal stimulation so they do not get bored. Patient and playful with children. Great, devoted family pets and guard dogs. Wonderful agility, obedience or therapy dogs.


Lifespan: 
12 years

History: 

Despite the name, the Australian Shepherd did not originate in Australia. However, it originated as a working dog in the Basque region between Spain and France where many of the Basque shepherds came from Australia. From the beginning, the Australian Shepherds have been valued for their trainability and ability to herd and protect.
