Appearance: 

Lightly built smooth coated dog with a slightly wrinkled head and curled tail. Although they do not "bark", they do "yodel", due to its unusually shaped larynx.


Color: 

Red, black, tricolor or brindle, all with white markings.


Grooming: 
Very little grooming required.

Temperament: 

Clever, playful and loving these little dogs are independent but also get very attached to a family member. They have been know to be great escape artists and can jump and climb the standard back yard fence with no problem.


Lifespan: 
12 years

History: 

Originated in central Africa in the time of the Pharaohs as retrieving, hunting and tracking. Valued for their intelligence and silence they were introduced to England and America in the 1930's.


Health Concerns: 

PRA (progressive retinal atrophy), which causes blindness and Fanconi's syndrome, which can cause kidney failure.
