Small, sturdy dogs that are similar in appearance to the American Foxhound, except for being smaller. Their heads are round with a square muzzle and longer hanging ears. The eyes are hazel or brown and always appear as if they are pleading. Their tail is tipped with white at the end, known as the "flag," and it is erect without curling over the back.
Any hound color. Typically tri-color, white with patterns of brown.
Easygoing, fun, playful and loving. As a scent hound they must be kept on lead or fenced in, as they will easily wander far away tracking a scent. Great family dogs if you don't mind the "beagling" and "baying" that comes naturally to them. Can be stubborn and difficult to train.
Originated in England in the 1800's thru the breeding of several hounds. They were prized for their tireless pursuit of fox, rabbit and small game.
May be prone to epilepsy, eye problems and weight gain can lead to joint problems.
