Appearance: 

A large dog with a sturdy, well muscled frame covered in short dense hair. The ears are long and hang low. The muzzle is long and straight and the eyes have a "droopy" appearance. The tail is muscular and long and stands erect.


Color: 

Black with tan markings, very similar to the Doberman and Rottweiler.


Grooming: 
Very little grooming required.

Temperament: 

Friendly, very sociable dogs that are driven by their instinct to trail and hunt game. They need daily exercise and must be on leash or in a fenced in area to prevent them from wandering off on a scent. Loving family dogs that are naturally protective.


Lifespan: 
12 years

History: 

Originated in England in the 11th Century. Used by Indians and scouts for hunting and trailing. The result of a cross between the Foxhound and Bloodhound.


Health Concerns: 

Eye problems and hip dysplasia.
