Appearance: 

Medium built, lightweight, graceful dogs covered in short to long hair. Their expression is always alert and they are always watchful. They have a slightly wide head that tapers down to a thinner muzzle. Their legs are long and lean and their tail is long and erect, never curling over their back. Ears are triangular and usually erect.

Grooming: 
Minimal grooming required. Regular bathing and brushing required.

Temperament: 

Considered the best sheep herding dog. Very intelligent and always thinking. The Border Collie is a high-energy breed of dog that needs a lot of exercise and mental stimulation. They are protective of family members and are good with children, except they tend to herd smaller children and/or pets. Loving, obedient and very eager to please. They need a good deal of space to run and exercise. Very athletic.


Lifespan: 
12 years

History: 

Originated in the country land between Scotland and England where they were bred for the ability to herd sheep and work independently. Prized for their keen intelligence and high trainability.


Health Concerns: 

Hip dysplasia, Collie Eye Anomaly and Progressive Retinal Atrophy.
