Appearance: 

Small, compact little dogs with a sturdy built frame covered in short wiry hair. Their heads are otter-like and the muzzle is short and square. The eyes are keen and alert. The ears are triangular and hang against the square head. The tail is shorter, thick, sturdy and usually erect.


Color: 

Red, grizzle and tan and blue and tan. White markings acceptable but not on the feet. Muzzle is dark.


Grooming: 
Very little grooming required.

Temperament: 

Alert, watchful, courageous, attentive little dogs that are persistent and feisty. Very athletic and energetic. Loving and good with older children they make great family companions. They have a high prey drive and should be kept in a fenced in area.


Lifespan: 
15 years

History: 

Originated in the country land between Scotland and England where they were bred to follow horses and hunt fox and other small game. They were used around the farm as well to keep away rats.


Health Concerns: 

Generally free of genetic disorders, may develop eye problems.
