Appearance: 

Medium-built, squarely-proportioned, lean and compact dogs with short tight hair. Their chiseled heads must be in direct proportion to their body. The muzzle is broad and blunt and must be in balance with the size of the skull. Ears and tails are usually docked.


Color: 

Fawn and brindle.


Grooming: 
Very little grooming required.

Temperament: 

Friendly, easygoing, spirited and loyal. They are naturally protective and athletic. They make great family companions. They do require a good deal of exercise and mental stimulation or they can get into trouble.


Lifespan: 
14 years

History: 

Originated in Germany in the 19th Century by crossing the German Mastiff with English Bulldogs. They were bred to hunt, fight and work. Were used as couriers during both World Wars.


Health Concerns: 

Cancer, skin allergies, eye problems and hip dysplasia.
