Appearance: 

Large, strong, big-boned dogs covered in a short, tight coat of hair. The head is large, broad and accented by wrinkles descending from the forehead. The muzzle is short, broad, deep and characterized by loosely hanging lips. The ears are "V" shaped and carried close to the cheeks. The tail is strong at the root and tapers to the hocks. The tail is carried either low or curved.


Color: 

Red, fawn or brindle.


Grooming: 
Very little grooming required.

Temperament: 

Gentle, loving, playful dogs that are also fiercely loyal and protective of their family. Patient and generally very good with children and other pets. However, it is common for males not to get along with other male dogs. They are stubborn and require a good deal of obedience training. A daily walk or jog is all the exercise that they need.


Lifespan: 
9 years

History: 

Originated in England in the 1800's by crossing the English Bulldog and the English Mastiff. The were originally used to protect and police large tracts of land.


Health Concerns: 

Hip dysplasia, eye problems and bloat.
