Appearance: 

Medium-sized, squarely-built dog with a hippopotamus shaped head. They have heavily wrinkled faces, muzzles, necks and shoulders. The ears are small and lie flat against the top of the head. The eyes are dark and sunken and give them a scowling appearance. The muzzle is broad and full. The tongue is black or blue/black. The tail is thick at the base and curling over to either side of the back.

Any solid colors and sable.


Grooming: 
High level of maintenance is required to keep the folds of skin clean and free from infection.

Temperament: 

Playful, loving dogs that are fiercely protective and loyal. They are stubborn and need to be socialized and schooled in obedience. They were bred to hunt and fight and those instincts can resurface easily. An independent dog.


Lifespan: 
10 years

History: 

An ancient breed from China that was originally used to hunt and fight. They were also used around the farm as guard dogs.

Skin allergies, ear infections and eye problems.
