Appearance: 

Medium-sized, sturdy dogs covered in dense furry coats, either smooth or rough. They are square in profile and have a broad head and skull, tiny, triangular ears that are rounded at the tips and their signature blue-black/purple tongue and lips. They are also distinguished by their thick tail that curls and lays on the back.


Color: 

Red, black, blue, cinnamon and cream.


Grooming: 
High level of grooming required.

Temperament: 

Very protective and territorial. They tend to bond strongly with one family member and are very reserved with strangers. With a tendency to be stubborn and get bored easily they need an experienced owner who can give them the discipline and mental stimulation that they need. They do not require a great deal of exercise and do well in smaller dwellings. Males usually do not get along with other males.


Lifespan: 
15 years

History: 

Originated in Siberia more than 2,000 years ago and used to pull carts, sleds and to hunt and kill. They were also kept as pets by royalty.


Health Concerns: 

Hip dysplasia and eye problems.
