Appearance: 

Small, sturdy dogs covered in silky hair with long ears. The head is rounded and clearly defined. The eyes are dark and pronounced. The muzzle is wide and square. The neck is long and the back is short. The tail is usually docked.

Active, loving, loyal dog with a strong instinct to flush and retrieve fowl.

History: 

Originated in England to hunt the countryside. They were especially good at hunting woodcocks, which is how they became known as "Cockers". American Cocker Spaniels and English Cocker Spaniels became separate breeds in the 19th century.
