Appearance: 

Medium-sized dog covered in a water resistant coat of tight curls. The frame is slightly longer than tall. The head is wedge-shaped with a tapered, thin muzzle. The ears are small, set above the corner of the eye and lie flat against the head. The tail is of medium length and thickness and carried at level.


Color: 

Black or liver.


Grooming: 
Very little grooming required.

Temperament: 

Active, athletic, dependable, intelligent and loving. Curly Coated Retrievers love to be outside and in the water. They have a strong flushing and retrieving instinct and need regular exercise and mental stimulation. They are friendly and playful at home and form strong bonds with family members.


Lifespan: 
12 years

History: 

The exact origins are unknown. However, this is the oldest of all the retriever breeds. Originally bred in England to flush and retrieve fowl and game from the iciest of waters.


Health Concerns: 

Hip dysplasia, heart problems and eye problems.
