Small, low, long, sturdy dogs with a distinctive fluffy head of hair and blade-shaped tail. The coat is a mixture of harsh and soft hairs. The head is large, but in proportion to the body and the muzzle is short and tapered. The eyes are large and give them a soulful appearance.
Pepper or mustard.
Lively, active, feisty little dogs that are loving and playful. They form strong bonds with family members and are very loyal. However, they can be stubborn and have a natural instinct to chase, hunt and dig. They generally get along well with other pets and children.
Originated on the English/Scottish border from a mix of local terriers. Named after a character in a novel by Sir Walter Scott. Originally used to hunt otter and badger.
Generally free of genetic disorders, may develop back problems.
