Appearance: 

Medium-sized, very muscular and stocky dog covered in a short fine coat. The head is massive, accented by wrinkles and loose hanging lips. The neck is thick and massive and accented by wrinkles. The muzzle is powerful, thick and short with an undershot. The eyes are dark and oval. The ears are small, rounded and set high on the skull. The tail is thick at the base, tapered and carried low.


Color: 

All shades of fawn with a black mask.


Grooming: 
Minimal grooming required.

Temperament: 

Sweet, patient, even-tempered and even sensitive. Although they look fierce, the Dogue de Bordeaux is quite friendly and loving. They are naturally very protective and make excellent guard dogs.


Lifespan: 
10 years

History: 

Although the exact date and location of origin are unknown it is believed that they developed in France and were valued as a hunter, protector and guard dog.


Health Concerns: 

Hip dysplasia, heart problems, skin problems and bloat.
