Medium-sized athletic dogs that are similar in appearance to the American Foxhound with the exception of being smaller in height. The coat is short and dense. The head is broad and wide with a longer muzzle and flat, folded ears that hang close to the cheeks. The legs are long and straight and the tail is thick and tapered and held erect.
Any hound color. Typically tri-color, white with patterns of brown.
Easygoing, fun, playful and loving. They love being outdoors and are driven by their sense of smell. They should always be in a fenced in area or on lead as they will quickly wander away on a scent. Patient and generally good with other pets and children they make a great family companion.
Originated in England several centuries ago to be used as pack hunting dogs while the nobles rode horseback. They have great endurance and persistence.
