Appearance: 

Medium-sized, compact dogs covered in medium length hair that grow feathery on their ears, chest, legs, tails and belly. The head is strong and broad, yet light and they have a pleasant expression. The ears are long and hang against the cheek. The tail is usually docked.


Color: 

Black and white, liver and white, blue or liver roan


Grooming: 
Minimal grooming required.

Temperament: 

Outgoing, friendly, loving and even-tempered. They have a strong instinct to flush and retrieve game. They have great endurance and will work tirelessly. They form strong bonds with family members and get along with other pets and children.


Lifespan: 
14 years

History: 

Originated in the 1600's as prized hunting and retrieving dogs. In 1902 they were classified as a distinct breed based on their size.


Health Concerns: 

Hip dysplasia, epilepsy and eye problems.
