Small, compact, muscular dogs covered in a short, tight coat. Distinguished by the large "bat ears" that are wide at the base and rounded at the top. The head is broad and flat with a "snub" nose. The tail is naturally short.
Brown, black, tan and mouse gray.
Playful, gentle and calm. They are easygoing and get along well with children and other pets. They do well in smaller dwellings and do not require a great deal of exercise.
Although their origins are unclear it is believed that these little dogs originated in the 19th century in France from a mixture of various bulldogs and toy breeds. They were cherished companions.
Breathing problems, eye problems and prone to gain weight.
