Appearance: 

Large, heavy-boned dog that is longer than it is tall. The head is well-defined and in proportion to the rest of the body. The muzzle is thick and long and the ears are set high and carried erect. The tail is long, bushy and carried low.

High level of grooming required. Heavy shedder.

Temperament: 

Friendly and extremely loyal and protective. Highly intelligent and has a strong work ethic. The GSD is the worlds leading breed for protection, police work, search and rescue and military work. They are gentle and patient with family, great with kids and generally get along well with other pets. They need daily exercise and mental stimulation. Heavy shedders.

Originated in Germany in the 20th century as a mixture of various shepherds and herding breeds to develop a highly intelligent, hard-working, loyal companion.
