Appearance: 

Medium-sized, muscular and has a strong instinct to flush, hunt and retrieve. Has a balanced shape with a long muzzle and almond-shaped eyes that are usually brown. The ears are set high and they hang close to the cheek. The coat is short and rough. The tail is thick, straight and usually docked.


Color: 

Solid liver, liver roan or combinations of liver and white


Grooming: 
Minimal grooming required.

Temperament: 

Bold, intelligent and cooperative. They are excellent working dogs. They love human interaction and do well with children. They are loyal and protective. Get along with other dogs but have a strong instinct to hunt which isn't good for smaller pets. Require daily physical and mental stimulation. Need to be in a fenced in area or on lead. These dogs like to eat and will quickly become overweight without proper food moderation.

15 years

History: 

Originated in Germany in the 19th century to be used for hunting. Descended of Spanish Pointer. Were also used as sled dogs in Scandinavia.


Health Concerns: 

Hip dysplasia, epilepsy, ear infections and eye problems.
