Appearance: 

Medium-sized, muscular with weather-resistant wiry coats. They have beards and mustaches. Long heads with rounded, close-hanging ears. They have medium, brown and oval eyes. The tail is usually docked and is straight.


Color: 

Solid liver, liver roan or combinations of liver and white. The head and ears are liver sometimes with white blaze.


Grooming: 
Coat needs brushed several times a week.

Temperament: 

Energetic, loyal and trainable. They make good watch dogs and like to hunt. They are independent and will roam. They are reserved around strangers and need to be socialized at a young age. They do best with older children and are great companions. They are jealous dogs. Require daily exercise. They are good with other dogs.


Lifespan: 
15 years

History: 

Originated in Germany. Were bred to be rugged and have coats that could work with any weather. They were bred to be able to work in any terrain.


Health Concerns: 

Hip dysplasia, ear infections and eye problems.
