Appearance: 

Small, low, long dogs with short legs. The head is large and the eyes are round and set well apart. Ears are well back on the skull and set apart. The ears are erect when alert. The tail is thick and usually docked.


Color: 

All shades from cream to red wheaten, blue or brindle.


Grooming: 
Need brushed once or twice a week. Needs stripped several times a year.

Temperament: 

Easygoing, energetic and relaxed. Have a high instinct to hunt and will mistake domestic pets as prey. Easily trained. They are aggressive if provoked. Can be feisty around other dogs. Get along well with children.


Lifespan: 
15 years

History: 

Originated in Wicklow, Ireland. Named after the valley called Glen of Imaal. Bred for hunting rats and foxes. They are rare in the U.S. and are a cherished household companion.


Health Concerns: 

Hip dysplasia, eye disorders, skin problems and Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA)
