Great Pyrenees
Large, boxy frame with a coarse, thick, double coat, straight or wavy coat. Their heads are wedge-shaped and are slightly rounded. The eyes are almond-shaped and are of medium size. The ears range from small to medium and are V-shaped and rounded. They are set at eye level and are carried low and are close to the head. Their tails hang low and are well-plumed. They are extremely soft.
Solid white or white with gray, badger, reddish brown or shades of tan markings.
Handsome, loyal and gentle. They have an understanding of humans. The are quick learners, obedient and are eager to please. They get along with everyone but are very independent and like to wander. Require fenced in area or lead. They are sensitive and don't like harsh criticism.
Some say they originated in Asia around 1800 B.C. as farm dogs. Are found in the Pyrenees Mountain range in France and Spain. Is the official dog of the royal French court. Were used to haul artillery in WWII.
