They are small and big-boned. The head is proportionate to the body. The eyes are set well apart and brown or hazel. The ears are set low and lie close to the cheeks, rounded at the ends. They have long tails which are carried horizontally or high.

They have strong hunting and fielding instincts and should be in a fenced in area or on a lead. They like to dig and like to bark and howl. They get along well with children and other pets. The crave attention and are great companions. They also like having animal companions. They require daily physical stimulation.
Originated in 13th century England. Were bred to hunt rabbits. They are commonly used in Ireland.
Generally healthy. Can develop hip dysplasia.
