Medium-sized with silky coats. The coat grows longer on the belly, chest, legs and tail giving them a feathered appearance. Long muzzles and rather well-apart, almond-shaped eyes. They have long thin ears that are folded and close to the head. Their skull is oval-shaped. Their tails are long and carried horizontally.
Mahogany or chestnut red. May have a small amount of white.
They are gentle and full of energy. Make a good household pet. Get along well with children and other pets. They are hunting dogs and need fenced in areas or leads. The require daily exercise. They need portion control when feeding. They have puppy-like attitudes after puppyhood.
Originated in Ireland in the 18th century. Bred for pointing, flushing, hunting and retrieving especially game birds.
Hip dysplasia, skin allergies, eye problems, epilepsy and are prone to bloating.
