Appearance: 

Medium-sized, athletic looking dogs covered in dense curly coats or red or light brown. The head is broad and flat and the muzzle is long and narrow covered in a beard and mustache. The ears are small, set high on the head and folded over at the ends. The tail is of medium length and carried erect.


Color: 

Bright red, golden red, red wheaten, or wheaten.

Regular grooming required to maintain appearance.

Temperament: 

Intelligent, fun, active, fearless and loyal. They are gentle and loving and form strong bonds with family members. They can be stubborn and need a gentle, positive handler. They are good with children and other pets. They are very active and need daily mental and physical stimulation.


History: 

Originated in Ireland. Thought to be the oldest of the terrier breeds. They were used to hunt small game, herd livesstock, protect the home and provide companionship.
