Appearance:

Large, muscular dogs with a medium, coarse double coat. They have almond-shaped eyes that are somewhat slanted. The ears are thick and v-shaped with tips that are rounded. Their heads are wide and they have a tapered muzzle with a large nose. Their frame is slightly longer than it is tall. They have a fluffy mane and a fluffy tail that is carried low.

Daily brushing. Heavy shedders especially in spring and fall.

Temperament:

This dog is very protective and watchful. They are gentle and good with children and people in general. They are easy to train, but are sensitive. They like to work and stay busy. They need at least a medium yard and daily physical and mental stimulation.

12 to 14 years

History:

Showed up in Hungary during the 12th century. Were bred to guard and hunt. Became a popular choice for police dogs in Europe. They were also found in the royal court during the 15th century.

Health Concerns:

Hip dysplasia, eye problems and deafness.
