Appearance: 

They are small with a long, dense, hard coat. The muzzle is square with a beard. The ears are pendant-shaped and are well-feathered. The tail is well-feathered and is carried over the back and it is in a screw. They have dark eyes that are of medium size.

Grooming: 
Daily brushing (if kept long) and regular baths and ear inspections.

Temperament: 

Spunky, well behaved and strong-willed. They will be lifelong friends as long as you give them respect. They like to protect and are good watchdogs. They need socialization and daily exercise.


Lifespan: 
18 years

History: 

Originated in Tibet as guard dogs to temples and palaces. They are one of the oldest breeds. The Dalai Lama helped introduce the breed in America in the 30's.


Health Concerns: 

Hip dysplasia, kidney problems, respiratory ailments and skin disorders.
