Appearance: 

Extremely large with a straight, coarse and straight coat. They have a square head with wrinkly forehead and muzzles that are short and cut off squarely. The eyes are set wide apart and are of medium size. Their ears are v-shaped with rounded tips that are small and hang close to the head. The tails are tapered and are set high and hang low.


Color: 

Fawn, apricot and bridle. Muzzle, ears and noses are dark.


Grooming: 
Minimal grooming required.

Temperament: 

Gentle, calm and slobbery. Make great watchdogs. They are generally quiet and obedient. They like to lie around and be lazy but need to be exercised on a daily basis. Make great family companions.


Lifespan: 
12 years

History: 

Were brought to England by the Romans thousands of years ago. They were used as herders, guard dogs and police dogs. Were reestablished in America in the 40's after their drop of popularity in England.


Health Concerns: 

Hip and elbow dysplasia, heart disease and eye problem. Prone to bloating.
