Appearance: 

Large with loose skin creating wrinkles. Their coats are straight and short and cover the body uniformly. The ears are usually cropped but uncropped ears are of medium size, triangular and hang close to the head. The eyes are deep-set and covered by droopy eyelids. The tail is thick and hangs low or curls slightly.


Color: 

Solid or shades of gray, black, mahogany or tawny.


Grooming: 
Minimal grooming required.

Temperament: 

They are great protectors and great companions. They love to be with their family but also like their space. Reserved around strangers but are easygoing. They are indoor dogs but enjoy spending time outside. Require daily mental and physical stimulation. Because of their size they don't mix well with small children.


Lifespan: 
7 to 10 years

History: 

It is suggested that this breed has been around since 3000 B.C. and can be traced back to Egypt, Persia and Asia. They are beloved farm and show dogs.


Health Concerns: 

Bone cancer, eye problems like "cherry eye", heart problems and are prone to bloating.
