Appearance: 

Medium-sized and muscular. Has a water-repellent coat that is of medium length and is soft. The head is wedge-shaped with a tapered muzzle. They eyes are almond-shaped and are slightly oblique. The ears are set high and are triangular in shape and have rounded tips. The tail is thick, feathered and hangs low.


Color: 

Any shade of red with white marks on the tip of the tail, on the chest or on the feet.


Grooming: 
Regular combing and bathed when necessary.

Temperament: 

Patient, outgoing and active. They have a strong instinct to hunt and like to be in the water. They are not generally shy, but they can be reserved around strangers. They need attention and daily exercise.


Lifespan: 
12 to 14 years

History: 

Originated in 19th century Canada to be used in hunting. They weren't popular in the U.S. until the 80's.


Health Concerns: 

Generally healthy, but may develop eye and thyroid problems.
