Appearance: 

Large, square and compact frames. The coat is shaggy, hard and abundant without being profuse. They have square heads that are covered with fur with a large black nose. The ears are carried flat on the side of the head. The tail is usually docked.


Color: 

Any shade of grey, grizzle, blue or blue merle.


Grooming: 
Regular brushing.

Temperament: 

Warm, affectionate and loyal. They love attention, but are introverted. They like to be outside and on the couch. They are great with children and make effective watchdogs. They are natural herders and have a sense of duty. They need daily exercise and a fenced in area.


Lifespan: 
12 years

History: 

Believed to have originated in England and were known as the "Shepherd's Dog". They were used as herders.


Health Concerns: 

Hip dysplasia, thyroid problems, obesity and cataracts.
