Appearance: 

Small with a silky, long, fine and feathered coat. The eyes are round and alert. The ears are erect or the drop type. The erect ones are large with rounded tips and they look like the spread wings of a butterfly. The drop type are large with rounded tips and are carried drooping and completely down. The skull is rounded and the muzzle is tapered. The tail is plumed and curls over the back.


Color: 

Parti-colored or white with patches of any color.


Grooming: 
Regular grooming and brushing. Shed twice a year.

Temperament: 

Playful, cuddly and loyal. They love to play and are energetic. They need daily exercise and lots of attention. They form strong attachments and are not shy around strangers.


Lifespan: 
16 years

History: 

They were companions to royals. Papillon is the French word for butterfly and got that name form their ears. They are popular show dogs.

Kneecap and joint problems and difficulty under anesthesia.
