Appearance: 

Small and compact with long, coarse and straight coat. They have wide heads and a flat face with a dark and wrinkled muzzle. The eyes are large, well apart and round. The ears are heart-shaped and hang close to the head. The tail is carried well over the back and is well fringed.

Grooming: 
Regular grooming and brushing as well as regularly cleaning the eyes, ears and face.

Temperament: 

Proud, self-assured and sensitive. They need attention and they get jealous. They have big dog attitudes and love exercise, but don't need a lot of it. They love to bark and love to do it a lot.


Lifespan: 
15 years

History: 

Originated in 8th century China and were companions to royals. Were brought to Europe and were still companions to royals.


Health Concerns: 

Corneal ulcerations, other eye problems, heat stroke, pinched nostrils and are prone to quick weight gain.
