They are long and low. The coat is short, thick, weather-resistant and is of medium length. The head is foxy in shape and has a wide and flat head. The eyes are oval and of medium size. The ears are erect and taper to a rounded point.
Self-colors in red, black, sable, fawn or black and tan with or without white markings.
Brave, bubbly and playful. They are outgoing, but tend to be reserved around strangers and other pets. They love to play outside and to relax indoors. They are protective and have natural herding instincts. They need lots of attention and daily exercise.
Brought to Wales in the 12th century. Were used as farm dogs.
