Appearance: 

Medium-sized with a profuse, thick and curly or wavy coat. They have a large rounded head with a boxy muzzle. They have widely set apart and dark eyes that are roundish. The ears are thin and heart-shaped and they hang close to the head. Their tails are thick and tapered that are carried in a high curl.


Color: 

Black, white and shades of brown. Can be in combinations of black or brown with white.


Grooming: 
Regular brushing and clipping.

Temperament: 

Calm, energetic and goofy. They learn quickly and are natural workers. They are good with children. They make excellent therapy dogs as well as companions. They like to be outside and in the water. They also like to jump and chew on things. They need daily exercise.


Lifespan: 
14 years

History: 

Originated in Portugal to work alongside fishermen. Deyanne Miller made the rise of the breed possible in 1972.


Health Concerns: 

Hip dysplasia and eye problems.
