Appearance: 

Small, squarely-built, stocky, sturdy, muscular dogs covered in a short, tight coat. The head is square, thick and well-defined. The muzzle is short and blunt. The ears are small and half-pricked. The tail is of medium length, tapered and carried low.


Color: 

Red, fawn, black, blue, or any of these colors with white. Also, brindle with white.


Grooming: 
Minimal grooming required.

Temperament: 

Fun-loving, gentle, intelligent dogs with a natural instinct to protect. They are patient and good with children. Care must be taken around other dogs and they should be socialized at a very young age. They make great family companions. They do well in smaller dwellings.


Lifespan: 
16 years

History: 

Originated in England in the 18th century as a working class guard dog from a mixture of Bulldog and Terrier.


Health Concerns: 

Sensitive to extreme temperatures. Hip dysplasia, epilepsy.
