Appearance: 

Medium-sized, squarely-built athletic dogs covered in a thick, wiry coat. The head is long and narrow with a square muzzle covered in a beard and mustache. The eyes are dark and oval-shaped. The ears are v-shaped, set high on the head and bent forward. The tail is docked and carried erect.


Color: 

Pepper and salt or black.


Grooming: 
Requires regular grooming to maintain appearance.

Temperament: 

Feisty, fun, playful, energetic dogs that are fearless and sometimes stubborn. They are very active and require a great deal of exercise. They are patient and good with children and other pets and make all around good family companions.


Lifespan: 
15 years

History: 

Originated in Germany in the 15th century from a mixture of Spitz, Poodle and Pinscher. They were used as guard dogs and ratters.

Generally free of genetic disorders.
