Appearance: 

Large, athletic, gracefully-built and well-defined dogs covered in short, tight coats of bluish gray. The head is long and sleek and the muzzle is tapered and strong. The ears are set high on the head and hang. The tail is usually docked and carried erect.


Color: 

Mouse-grey to silver-grey.


Grooming: 
Minimal grooming required.

Temperament: 

Athletic, energetic, lively, intelligent dogs that are a bit stubborn and need regular physical and mental stimulation. They are gentle and generally good with children and other pets. They are good escape artists and should be kept in a fenced in area. They make great family companions.

12 years

History: 

Originated in Germany in the 19th century as a hunter of wolves, deer and bear.
